Nisqually National Refuge

Traditionally our first paint out of the year, we are once again painting at the Bill Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge.
With it’s covered viewing platform at the visitors center, abundance of water, reeds, trees and wildlife, Nisqually is an ideal place to paint in early spring.
Susan McManamen created an informative and beautiful video of this spring paint out, watch it here  https://youtu.be/lgha_UtV3oQ
Kathryn Townsend: Nisqually Cloud Break

Jane Wallis: March at Nisqually Marsh
By Line: Kathryn Townsend facilitator:
Despite the forecast, there was no rain and the cloud breaks with sun were beautiful. Painters found their own spots along the trail from the visitor center out past the two barns.
A female Bald Eagle (the bigger of the pair) was sitting high up in a tree by the barn where I was painting, eating her catch. The male was hovering about, but it didn't appear the female was sharing.
I loved talking with all the families who brought their children out to Nisqually to be in this wonderful place. I loved talking to the children and encouraging them to keep painting!
Patrick and I were holding in our hearts the remembrance of Helen Engle, a "giant of conservation" and the matriarch of our extended family, who died at 93 on March 11, 2019. Helen was instrumental in creating the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge along with many other preserves in Washington State. https://www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/article227276719.html
