Again this year The American Art Company in Tacoma (1126 Broadway, Tacoma, WA 98402) hosts our annual juried show.
This year's theme is "The Journey" and the show runs December 1, 2018 - January 26, 2019
Byline: Karen Bakke
On Saturday December 1st many of our members attended the gala opening reception to meet with and listen to our juror Mitch Baird.
Mitch discussed beautiful compositions, guiding your eye through the painting and back to the center of interest.
He discussed the use of light and color harmony, the occasional slight stray from that for "pop".
He loved Ned's limited chroma with cool and warm gray harmonies.
He enjoyed wanting to be in the scene in some paintings, wondering what was beyond?
Second Place Elena Balkha large studio watercolor, "Evening at Harbor"
Best Plein Air Robin Weiss "Rhododendron Walk"
Honorable Mention Christine Troyer "East Side Story"
Honorable Mention Amanda Houston for her studio
pastel, derived from a plein air "Cottonwood in the Cow Fields"
On the day of the closing ceremony, it couldn’t have been more beautiful outside, a perfect compliment to the art inside the American Art Company Gallery in Tacoma.
Most of those in attendance were the artists and their spouses (and a few patrons who got in to the gallery before the art came down) who enjoyed conversation, food and wine while awaiting the tally for the People’s Choice award. Jane Wallis told us who received votes and how many; Debbie Horne with her studio painting, “Great Blue Heron” won in a landslide!
