I hopped on the Kingston/Edmonds ferry on Saturday to attend the spring kick off for Plein Air Washington Artist's 2020 plein air painting season. It was a beautiful day to sit topside for a spectacular view of the Olympic Mountains as we cruised across the sound to Edmonds. The fall and spring paint ins have been taking place at the Art Works facility since I started with PAWA. It is a great location and always seemed to have plenty of room ....but PAWA is growing!! I was surprised at how many members showed up for the paint in and how many new faces! I think we are getting a reputation for being a welcoming and friendly group of artists to hang out and paint with!
Speaking of new faces, I got the chance to meet and talk with the new vice president of PAWA , Janelle Kroner. Her husband is well know artist, James Kroner. If you haven't yet seen Jame's work check out his website HERE. Janelle has a lot of experience managing her husbands business and is an accomplished artist as well. I'm sure she will be a great help to Karen as she continues to lead an ever growing membership! Welcome aboard Janelle and thanks for serving our community of artists!
I didn't count how many members showed up but seemed like it could have been in the neighborhood of 50 or more! Many were set up in the main room around our excellent models... who did a great job BTW! Many more were set up in the back room and on the outskirts painting the still life setups.
There was also the best layout of potluck food I have seen at a PAWA event! Plenty to go around even with all the hungry artists in attendance! After lunch our pres., Karen Bakke went over some of the paintout locations for 2020. It will be a fun year and I hope to be at as many of the events as I can.
Ned Mueller mentioned the Tilbury Event on the Kitsap peninsula will be starting up again this year and he also has a workshop scheduled. Click on highlighted text for more info.
Look forward to meeting new friends and painting in the beautiful Pacific Northwest with all of you this summer! =]
